Notes from the other side of my 20's
Life in your 20s is complex. It's the first time you step into a season that could shape the rest of your life.
I vividly remember leaving college feeling ambitious but unsure. There were many times when I would catch myself wondering what my next decade would look like.
At 22 (shoutout Taylor Swift), I felt the weight of autonomy and the mystery ahead.
Now, at 32 with a young family, here are 3 principles for your 20’s I'd encourage you to let guide you.
I wish I had embraced them much earlier.

➞ Becoming > Doing
Instead of waking up asking, "What do I need to get done today?", try asking, "Who am I becoming today?"
Behavior is the small consistent choices that we act on, and overtime those accumulate and form your character. Identity leads to action. Show yourself grace in the process because God already does.
Romans 5:1 says "...we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Who you're becoming matters more than what you're doing.

➞ You are Fearfully & Wonderfully Made
Your identity isn't in your job, status, or productivity. You are a child of God, deeply known and fully loved.
King David proclaims it perfectly in Psalm 139:14 — "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made..."

➞ Live an Integrated Life
What do I mean by living an integrated life?
It is when your inner world (thoughts, desires, longings) and outer world (words, actions, habits) live together in harmony. Not competing. Complimenting each other.
The result? No more masks, no more striving. No more secrets and people pleasing. No more anxiety and fear of man. Instead, you are able to fully know and be known and completely love and be loved.
Isn’t that what we all want?

➞ Big Takeaways
Walk into the rest of the week with the below in mind:
Focus on who you are, not simply what you do.
Remember whose you are. That’s the secret sauce.
Grace is the pace. Slow down, and enjoy the presence of God.
Integration is the life God offers and you desire.
Here's the best part, though…
You can't do this alone. You see if these principles guide you, then community and friendship will follow, but if simply finding friends is the goal, then not only will it be even harder for you to find friends (because you are constantly on a tryout, and people can tell), but you'll end up finding people who enjoy a false version of you. How isolating would that be?
You’re also not meant to do this alone. God is with you, forming Himself in you.
Take heart in Philippians 1:6 – "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion."
So, this week, ask yourself: Who am I becoming?
