The Ultimate Benefits Package

When discerning a change in employers, studying benefits packages is essential.

Insurance coverage, 401(k) structure, paid time off, company culture, and charitable contributions are part of the consideration set.

These considerations then lead to a commitment — a commitment to a new employer or staying in a current role.

But I wonder…

What sits in Jesus’ benefits package? And how might it lead to commitment?

Let’s study together!

Jesus states, “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?’” (Matthew 16:24-26, NIV)

Put simply: follow the world and lose your soul. Follow Jesus and find your life.

So, at a macro level, commitment to Jesus provides life.

But what about at a micro level? What specific benefits are in His benefits package?

The psalmist David dives into this.

He writes:

“Praise the Lord, my soul;
 all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
 and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
 and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
 and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
 so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalms 103:1-6, NIV).

So, Jesus’ benefits include:

• Forgiveness from mistakes

• Healing of the soul

• Redemption from darkness

• Royalty soaked in love and compassion

• Satisfaction, rest, and contentment

• Renewal of the youthful soul

Whether a Jesus follower or not, aren’t those benefits we all want in this life?

So, with that, as we head into the holidays, consider Jesus’ benefits package and the “life and life to the full” (John 10:10, NIV) He provides.
